Blow to the jaw: Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Okonkwo to be assessed ahead of Wrexham v Yeovil Town
Published: December 01, 2023
Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has emerged as an injury doubt for Wrexham ahead of their Emirates FA Cup clash against Yeovil Town on Sunday, December 3.
The Hale End Academy graduate played through the pain barrier during the first half of Wrexham's League Two meeting with
Harrogate Town on Tuesday after receiving a blow to the jaw.
Manager Phil Parkinson opted to replace Okonkwo at halftime based on the advice of the club's medical team.
Okonkwo has been in excellent form in the League Two, starting each of the last eleven games contested by the Red Dragons and has kept five clean sheets.
The Nigerian glovesman will be assessed in the days leading up to the match against Yeovil Town before a decision is made on whether to include him the gameday squad.
In quotes relayed by the Leader, Parkinson said: "Arthur got whacked in the jaw which was a shame for him.
"We will check him out. I don't think it is too serious but he was a bit dazed at half-time so the medical team felt it was the right thing to bring him off.
"I am not a physio, I have got to go with their judgment but that didn't cost us."
Okonkwo was in goal for Wrexham in their 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in the first round of the FA Cup last month and made another appearance in the EFL Trophy against Newcastle United.
