Super Eagles GK crisis: Peseiro lands in South Africa to run the rule over Chippa United star
Published: December 08, 2023
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro was spotted today at the training ground of DStv Premiership club Chippa United.
According to South African media outlet FARPost, the former Real Madrid assistant coach is currently in Port Elizabeth and attended the Chippa United session at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where he met with former home-based Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili
Amid the Super Eagles goalkeeping crisis, the Portuguese tactician was at the club's facilities to hold talks with the former Katsina United and Enyimba shot-stopper ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations slated to begin next month.
Peseiro addressed the Chippa United players during the training session and said that he had been watching the team for a while.
Nwabili previously represented Nigeria in 2021 during an international friendly against Mexico - a game in which Nigeria fielded a team composed mainly of players based in the domestic championship.
Peseiro will run the rule over Nwabili on Saturday evening when Chippa United take on Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership.
In the current season, the Chippa United first choice goalkeeper has kept six clean sheets from twelve appearances in the South African top-flight.
Nwabili will eagerly embrace another opportunity to put on the green and white colours of Nigeria should Peseiro find him worthy of an international call-up.
