'This is his strong point' - Peseiro names four different positions versatile Atalanta star Lookman can play
Published: December 10, 2023
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro believes Atalanta star Ademola Lookman is good enough to play in four different positions for club and country.
Lookman has been mostly used as a support striker at Atalanta and has been deployed on the left side of attack at national team level.
The former Everton and Charlton Athletic player has earned praise for his versatility, with Peseiro highlighting that he could also fill in as a false nine and right winger apart from the support striker and left wing roles.
Lookman has become a prominent player since transferring to the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2022, earning his place in the starting lineup due to his versatility.
Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini saw his potential as a support striker and he has repaid the manager's faith with 29 goal involvements (19 goals, 10 assists) in 46 appearances in the Italian top-flight.
On Lookman who has notched six goals in 2023-2024,Peseiro told La Gazzetta dello Sport (subscription required) : "I make him the left wing of the trident, but he knows how to play in different roles: false nine, second striker, right winger or on the left-handed side.
"This is his strong point. And then you already saw it last year: he has a remarkable speed of execution”.
A 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup winner with England, Lookman is set to represent Nigeria in his first major tournament next month - the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
