Fernandes, Eriksen, Mount unavailable: Man Utd coach runs the rule over Shoretire ahead of trip to Liverpool
Published: December 16, 2023
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag ran the rule over Flying Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire ahead of his side's blockbuster Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Dutch football tactician has limited options in midfield for the away game against Liverpool, with captain Bruno Fernandes certainly not in contention to feature due to a suspension while Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount are set to miss the trip owing to injuries.
A fourth midfielder Casemiro has made progress in his recovery from injury but is rated as doubtful to be named in the traveling squad to Merseyside.
With a bloated injury list to contend with, Ten Hag monitored Shoretire at close quarters during Friday's training session at Carrington Training Ground with a view to his inclusion in the matchday squad against Liverpool.
The Anglo-Nigerian starlet offers versatility as he can play on both wings and in a number 10 role.
Shoretire has been arguably United U21s standout player over the last two seasons but has struggled to break into the first team since the appointment of Ten Hag as coach in the summer of 2022.
Under Ten Hag, he has received call-ups for Premier League, Carabao Cup and Europa League matches but was not utilized off the bench.
Shoretire has not figured for Manchester United's first team since the final day of the 2021-2022 season when he played the last fifteen minutes of a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
