Zirkzee's backheel assist at San Siro: Bologna striker likened to AC Milan icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Published: December 21, 2023
Bologna forward of Nigerian descent Joshua Zirkzee lit up the Coppa Italia stage with an audacious piece of skill that brought about comparisons to Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic last night, according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The former Bayern Munich prodigy, produced a sublime backheel assist that contributed to Bologna's 2–1 victory over Inter Milan in their Coppa Italia round of 16 clash at the San Siro.
In the 112th minute, an outswinging corner from the right fouund it's way behind the former Bayern striker, and rather than taking an orthodox shot, the inventive striker deftly backheeled the ball with the outside of his boot to give Beaukema a scoring chance at the near post to equalise the game for the Rossoblu.
Later on in the game, Zirkzee provided the match-winning assist to the delight of the fans in attendance.
The exquisite show of technique immediately evoked memories of former Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's flashy scoring exploits during his prime years.
Like Ibrahimovic, Zirkzee showcased supreme confidence combined with preposterous ability that overwhelmed the opposing defense.
Still early in his development, the Dutch-Nigerian striker offers physicality that enables him to shield the ball from defenders using his body much like the retired Swedish legend.
If he continues harnessing his potential, Zirkzee appears poised to inherit Ibrahimovic's mantle as Serie A's next mesmerizing attacking talent.
