KANU sent off in styleOn Saturday, the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos saw Nwankwo Kanu bid farewell to his football career. The striker, who turns 35 on 1 August, brought together a myriad of past and current international and many friends in the world of African football.

The gala meeting between the Friends of Kanu Nwankwo and Super Eagles All Stars was won by the latter (3-2). History will remember above all a time of intense communion with the public, even managing to calm Yakubu Ayegbeni whistles from the stands.

Nwankwo Kanu puts an end to 20 years of high level football, including 17 in the national colors. Kanu is the second most decorated African footballer behind Samuel Eto'o.

Among the distinguished guests were Samuel Eto'o, Michael Essien, Jay Jay Okocha, John Utaka, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, Uche Kalu, Victor Obinna, Yakubu Ayegbeni, Ike Uche, Elderson Echiejile, Onyekachi Okonkwo, Daniel Amokachi, Ike Shorunmu, Danny Shittu, Stephen Appiah, Kalusha, Khalilou Fadiga, Kolo Toure, Anthony Baffoe, Rigobert Song, Benjamin Mwaruwari, Emmanuel Eboue, Sammy Kuffour, George Boateng, Stephen Keshi and Jo Bonfrere.
