Transfer at zero cost: Ndidi, Arsenal, Liverpool stars among 10 midfielders being targeted by Barcelona
Published: December 25, 2023
Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi remains on the radar of Spanish giants Barcelona, according to reports.
Celebrated Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo via Fichajes says the Leicester City ace is among ten midfielders being followed by Barcelona to sign at zero cost next summer and may even negotiate a transfer during the January market.
Joining Ndidi on the list of midfielders being tracked by Barcelona are Tomas Soucek (West Ham), Pablo Fornals (West Ham), Jorginho (Arsenal), Thiago (Liverpool), Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Daichi Kamada (Lazio), Piotr Zielinski (Napoli), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) and Guido Rodríguez (Real Betis).
The Blaugrana have well-documented financial issues as their expenses do match their income, so to strengthen the team they have to delve into the free agency market.
Although Ndidi is playing in the Championship, he is arguably having the best season of his career under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, who has converted him from a holding midfielder into a box-to-box midfielder.
The change of position has worked effectively with Ndidi registering ten goal involvements in 22 appearances so far this season.
The 27-year-old has played nonstop at the Foxes since January 2017 when he was acquired from Racing Genk and his deal runs out on June 30, 2024.
He is expected to link up with the Super Eagles squad at their pre-Africa Cup of Nations training camp in the first week of January.
