Transfer guru reacts to reports linking Dutch-Nigerian attacker with transfer to Arsenal
Published: January 11, 2024
Transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the possibility of Arsenal securing the signature of Dutch-Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee this month.
It is no longer news that the north London side want to bolster their attacking options as they seek to beat Liverpool and Manchester City to the Premier League title.
The search for a new center forward has led them to Zirkzee who has been one of the revelations of the season in the Serie A and has played no little role in Bologna's surprising challenge for a place in the top four.
With 7 goals already in the Italian top flight, the 22-year-old has netted more than Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have managed for Arsenal in the Premier League this term.
Speaking about the Gunners' interest in the talented forward, Romano has revealed that Bologna have no intention of selling him this month.
"One name linked with Arsenal is Joshua Zirkzee, but I don't have any update as Bologna are very clear: Joshua will not leave in January, they guarantee," he told Caughtoffside
"His former club Bayern Munich will not decide on the buy-back clause now, that's all a discussion for June, not this January."
With Thiago Motta's side pushing to finish in a European spot, it is unlikely they change their stance on the availability of the former Bayern Munich striker before the end of this window.
Zirkzee has 12-goal involvements across all competitions this season for the Red and Blues.
