Published: February 08, 2024
William Troost-Ekong has reacted to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand's show of support for the Super Eagles following their victory over South Africa in a semifinal clash at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday evening.
Nigeria had to do it the hard way to get past the Bafana Bafana, sealing their place in the final through a penalty shootout and maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament against the Southern African nation.
After the encounter, Ferdinand took to his X account to celebrate the Super Eagles' victory by posting the Nigerian flag which has now received a lot of reactions.
In his reaction, Troost-Ekong quoted the post by appreciating Rio Ferdinand's support, stating how much he adores the former Manchester United defender.
He wrote on his X account: "One of the few players I would be willing to give my number up for! Legend!"
The PAOK center-back scored the Super Eagles' only goal of the game from the penalty spot and has now moved up the ladder to become the joint-top-scoring Nigerian defender at AFCON.
He will be hoping to lead the Super Eagles to their fourth-ever continental glory by beating the host nation Ivory Coast in Sunday's showpiece.
