Jose Peseiro: Offers flooding in for Super Eagles coach two weeks before the expiration of his contract
Published: February 15, 2024
Portuguese football tactician Jose Peseiro will have to resist interest from a host of teams in order to stay on as coach of Nigeria's senior national team, the Super Eagles.
The 63-year-old has two weeks to the end of his tenure as Super Eagles coach and could be leaving as a free agent if he does not agree fresh terms with the Nigeria Football Federation.
According to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo, Peseiro has other possibilities open, not only for the Algerian team, but for other teams and clubs.
The former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela manager has been coaching only national teams since he departed Sporting CP in 2018.
Peseiro has been linked with the vacant Algeria coaching job as a potential successor to Djamel Belmadi, who was fired after the Desert Foxes were eliminated at the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Carlos Queiroz had been one of the frontrunners for the Algeria job but ended up not accepting the offer from the Algerian Federation.
It is claimed that Walid Sadi, President of the Algeria Football Federation, has opened a line of communication with Peseiro about the vacant Algeria job and those talks were positive.
