Ajax Amsterdam prepared to offload former Middlesbrough striker Akpom in the summer

Ajax Amsterdam are prepared to sell Super Eagles-eligible forward Chuba Akpom who arrived at the club from Middlesbrough last summer.

According to Algemeen Dagblad via FootballTransfers, the Dutch giants have decided to sell the Hale End Academy product and seven other signings they made last summer in the next transfer window.

This is a result of the Dutch outfit coach John van 't Schip's desire to integrate some of the club's youth players into the first team at the expense of last summer's arrivals.

Akpom was initially brought in to challenge Brian Brobbey for a place in the starting lineup but has been unable to do that, having been named as a substitute in more games than he has started.

Despite scoring in four consecutive league games after the arrival of van 't Schip last October, he has started just one match since then and it is no surprise that he is deemed surplus to requirements.

The 28-year-old was linked with a return to England during the winter transfer window as Everton and Luton Town wanted him on loan and a return to English football next summer should not be ruled out.
