2023 Fifa U20 WC star Nnadi picks Onyeka as the Nigeria midfielder that impressed him the most at AFCON
Published: February 19, 20242023 Fifa U20 World Cup star Tochukwu Nnadi has picked Frank Onyeka as the Nigerian midfielder that impressed him the most during the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Manager Jose Peseiro gave minutes to all the midfielders he took to the tournament, namely Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo, Alhassan Yusuf and Raphael Onyedika .
The Brentford star was the most used midfielder as he started every single game played by the Super Eagles, accumulating a total of 608 minutes in seven matches.
Onyeka made fourteen tackles at the 2023 AFCON, more than any other player in the tournament, and was also the stat leader when it came to interceptions with eleven registered.
Tochukwu Nnadi was one of the standout players for the Flying Eagles at the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup, where he featured in all the five matches played by Ladan Bosso's team including three starts.
After putting himself in the shop window during the tournament in Argentina, the defensive midfielder earned himself a move to Belgian Challenger Pro League side Zulte Waregem in the January transfer window.
When asked to reveal the Super Eagles midfielder that impressed him the most at the AFCON, Nnadi said: "I rate Frank Onyeka highly because he was helping a lot in the games. Everybody can see he runs a lot and he covers a lot of spaces on the pitch.
"He's calm with the ball. He plays in England which is something good because players like that add more value to the team so I will rate him as the best midfielder.
"His qualities are reading of the game, tackling and he's a leader. Leadership is one of the traits I can pick from him to add to my game"
Former Botev Plovdiv ace Nnadi has cited Manchester United legend Michael Carrick as his role model.
