Justin Njinmah: Werder Bremen's exciting forward to choose between Nigeria and Germany
Published: February 21, 2024
The Nigeria Football Federation must act fast or face the risk of missing out on promising Werder Bremen forward Justin Njinmah.
According to German newspaper Bild via Die DeichStube,Njinmah has put himself on the radar of the German Football Association following a breakout season that has seen him register seven goal involvements in twenty games in the Bundesliga.
Though born in Hamburg, Njinmah is eligible to play for the Super Eagles as one of his parents is originally from Nigeria.
The 2000-born player finds himself with the same dilemma the likes of Patrick Owomoyela, Dennis Aogo and Sidney Sam faced.
The aforementioned retired players would have been eligible to represent the Super Eagles at international level but opted to turn out for Germany where they were born.
The Nigeria Football Federation, however, won the recruitment battle for Rangers central defender Leon Balogun, TSG Hoffenheim star Kevin Akpoguma and Jordan Torunarigha, beating the DFB to their services.
"It hasn't gone unnoticed by us that Justin Njinmah has developed very well. The player is in our broader field of vision, " DFB Sport managing director Andreas Rettig told Sport-Bild.
As per the report, Njinmah is unlikely to be handed a call-up for next month's internationals against France and the Netherlands.
