Race for Victor Osimhen: Chelsea concerned about missing out on African POTY
Published: February 27, 2024Chelsea are reportedly concerned about missing out on the signature of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen's possible departure from Napoli at the end of this season is one of the highly anticipated transfer sagas of the summer transfer window considering that he is on the radar of French Ligue 1 moneybags Paris Saint-Germain and top clubs in the English Premier League.
PSG are in the market for a world class striker to replace Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe and have identified the reigning African Footballer of the Year as the top candidate.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea have no issues meeting his valuation of around 100 million pounds but one potential stumbling block to a deal is that they could miss out on Champions League football.
Thirteen matches to the end of the season, the Blues are seventeen points behind Aston Villa who occupy the last Champions League position.
The Stamford Bridge outfit bottled the chance to qualify for next season's Conference League after losing 1-0 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup showpiece on Sunday.
Since transferring to Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has registered 86 goal involvements (69 goals, 17 assists) in 121 appearances across all competitions.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner is under contract with Napoli until June 30, 2026.
