Confirmed team news: Ndidi starts partial training at Leicester but ruled out of QPR clash
Published: March 01, 2024
Speaking at a press conference on Friday to preview his side's Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers, Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca provided some good news on the fitness of Wilfred Ndidi.
The Italian football tactician revealed that the Nigeria national teamer is progressing well in his recovery from injury but will not play a apart against the Hoops at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Ndidi suffered a serious muscle injury which has kept him out of action for the Foxes since the start of the year and cost him his spot in the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The holding midfielder was a vital player for the Foxes prior to his spell on the sidelines, registering 10 goals involvements in twenty-four matches across all competitions.
He has started partial team training with his teammates and could potentially return to action earlier than expected. .
In quotes relayed by Leicester City's official website, Maresca said: "Wilf is still out and that is all. He has already started to do some sessions with us, but part of the session, not all.
Hopefully next week he can complete the session with us, which means he starts to be available. Hopefully we can have Wilf back because, as you know, he is an important player for us.
“That’s why I said if he can be back earlier than three months, it is much better for us. He is an important player. Now we are trying to find solutions to adapt players but hopefully we can have him back very soon.”
Leicester City will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Championship after seeing their lead at the top of the second tier cut to six points following a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United a week ago.
