'Mac Allister is quality' - Ex-Man City defender Onuoha praises Liverpool midfielder for game-winning assist
Published: March 02, 2024
Warri-born former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has hailed 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina Alexis Mac Allister for providing the game-winning assist in Liverpool's hard-fought 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in a Premier League encounter at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
Just as it seemed both teams would settle for a share of the spoils, super-sub Darwin Núñez scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time to ensure Liverpool walked away with three points.
Núñez netted a historic goal as he got behind two defenders and sent a glancing header into the far corner from Alexis Mac Allister's clever cross.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, it was the latest winning goal scored by a Liverpool player in the Premier League since records began.
Liverpool old boy Taiwo Awoniyi, whose minutes are being managed following his recovery from a long-term injury, entered the game as a substitute with 25 minutes of normal time remaining and couldn't add to his six-goal tally this term.
Speaking on Final Score, Onuoha said: "Alexis Mac Allister is quality. He carries himself like a World Cup winner.
"It was in the 99th minute of the game. It just goes to show that it's never over with Liverpool."
Liverpool opened up a four point gap at the top of the Premier League table courtesy of their win over Nottingham Forest.
