Made in Africa goal: Wissa highlights Onyeka's role in acrobatic finish against Chelsea
Published: March 02, 2024Democratic Republic of Congo international Yoane Wissa has highlighted the role played by Frank Onyeka in his acrobatic goal during the Bees 2-2 draw with Chelsea in a Premier League clash at Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.
Onyeka has forced his way into Brentford's starting lineup after his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, making three consecutive starts in the Premier League.
Nicolas Jackson atoned for his earlier missed chances in the 35th minute when he opened the scoring with a header after a cross from Malo Gusto from the right wing.
Four minutes into the second half, Mads Roerslev benefited from some sloppy defending by Chelsea and slammed the ball home from close range to bring the game back to parity.
Two African stars Onyeka and Wissa combined to put Brentford ahead in the 69th minute, with the latter scoring an incredible acrobatic goal when the Nigeria international managed to flick the ball into his path.
Reacting to his brilliant goal, the Congolese praised Onyeka for his contribution, noting that the midfielder has the ability to pop up in different areas of the pitch.
"Frank [Onyeka] can be everywhere. I saw the ball was coming, I didn’t know he was there, and when it was in the air I thought I’d try something," Wissa said to Brentford's official webpage.
"We can make some mistakes, but we can do something good when we try/"
Chelsea were able to rescue a point against Brentford thanks to Axel Disasi's headed goal in the 83rd minute.
