Chelsea looking to fund deal for Super Eagles star by selling some players in the summer
Published: March 07, 2024
Chelsea are reportedly planning to offload some players to raise funds for the purchase of their summer transfer targets which includes Nigeria national teamer Victor Osimhen.
According to Footballinsider via Caughtoffside, the Stamford Bridge outfit are close to breaching the Financial Fair Play Rules and will have to sell if they are to make a marquee signing next summer.
With record-breaking signings of Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández, the Blues are on the brink of violating such rules, and with the Premier League not taking nonadherence to the regulation lightly, the London club will have to tread cautiously.
Osimhen has a release clause in the region of €130m and that explains why Chelsea will need to take drastic actions if they are to sign their long-term targets.
They aren't helped by the fact that they face stiff competition from Manchester United, PSG, and Arsenal who are in a much better financial state at the moment, for the signing of the Napoli striker.
Chelsea are seeking an improvement on the central forward options available at the club presently and it is no news that the 2023 CAF African Player of the Year is their first choice target.
Osimhen has mustered 72 goals in 123 all-competitions since landing in Naples from French Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
