'We can't rule out Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd'- Transfer expert insists Osimhen would prefer PL move
Published: March 12, 2024
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has insisted that Super Eagles first-choice striker Victor Osimhen would prefer a move to the Premier League amid links to French giants PSG who are in the market for a replacement for Kylian Mbappé.
Osimhen looks set to leave Napoli at the end of the current season and it is no surprise that he is being linked with European heavyweights which include Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
Through their new minority shareholder Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United are said to be in the mix for the signing of the Nigerian forward as they seek to give their squad a new and revitalized look next season.
London-based sides Arsenal and Chelsea will also be in the race for the signature of the star striker though the financial capacity of the latter to do so is still doubtful amid concern about Financial rules breaches.
However, Jacobs has revealed that the Blues can afford to sign Osimhen while also maintaining that the star striker would prefer a move to the Premier League.
"The key question in light of all this is can Chelsea afford Victor Osimhen? From what I am told the answer is yes, on paper; but in practice, it may be at the expense of other names in key positions," he wrote in his SPTC column via FootballTransfers.
"Napoli are going to insist Osimhen's £100m+ release clause is paid, and the Nigerian striker wants around £250k per week.
"These numbers might give PSG an edge since they have freed up around €200m gross from Kylian Mbappe's departure at the end of the season.
"But I am still told Osimhen ideally wants to move to the Premier League. So we can't rule it, out, for Chelsea, Arsenal, or even Manchester United (if Erik ten Hag's side somehow gets Champions League).
"Chelsea will want significant and quick outgoings and perhaps to put off strengthening other positions if they do put down an offer for the Nigerian."
Besides PSG, there could also be competition from the Saudi Pro League for the signature of the Napoli star.
Al Hilal attempted to sign him last summer and there is no ruling out the possibility of the Saudi Pro League club making an offer again.
