Maxi Oyedele: Tri-national midfielder trains with Man Utd first team but ineligible to face Chelsea
Published: April 03, 2024
Manchester United stepped up their preparations for Thursday's Premier League clash against Chelsea with a practice session at Carrington Training Ground in Manchester on April 2, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Talented midfielder Maxi Oyedele was among the academy players selected by manager Erik ten Hag to train with the first team.
Tuesday's training images from Carrington published by the official website of Manchester United showed Oyedele rubbing shoulders with first team stars such as Diogo Dalot, Sofyan Amrabat, Araon Wan-Bissaka, Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro.
Salford-born Oyedele, who is eligible for Nigeria and Poland through his father and mother respectively, is back at Manchester United after an unsuccessful loan spell at League Two club Forest Green Rovers.
It should be noted that the English-Polish-Nigerian teenager will not be named in the traveling squad to Stamford Bridge as he's ineligible to face Chelsea, given that his registration was temporarily transferred to Forest Green Rovers until the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Oyedele was unofficially recalled from his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers due to a lack of playing opportunities.
The 19-year-old logged 61 minutes spread across four matches in the League Two and has not been called up for the last nine games played by Forest Green Rovers in the fourth tier.
Since his return to Manchester, he has been keeping up his fitness levels by training with the first team and has played for the development squad in the Premier League 2.
