Nottingham Forest set to trigger contract extension for Chelsea-reared defender Aina
Published: April 04, 2024
According to The Telegraph UK, Nottingham Forest are ready to offer Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina a contract extension following his impressive performance in his debut season at the club.
The Cobham product moved to the City Ground on a one-year deal last summer with Forest having a right to extend for a further year, a clause which is now about to be activated.
The 27-year-old has proved to be a reliable player for both of the club's previous manager Steve Cooper and the current one, Nuno Espírito Santo though has made just five times under the latter.
Aina has played at both fullback positions this season and was one the first names on the team sheet before his participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, he has not been able to play a substantial amount of minutes for Forest having been nursing an injury he picked up during his international commitment.
He made his return last weekend last weekend in the two-time European champions' Premier League tie with Crystal Palace and also played for 83 minutes in their 3-1 win over Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey's Fulham on Tuesday.
The London-born defender has made 16 appearances across all competitions and has two goal involvements.
