Norrby IF beat Malmo, Djurgardens IF to sign Prince Amos; Barcelona, Ajax links wide of the mark
Published: April 05, 2024
Swedish Ethan Sodra outfit Norrby IF have won the race for the signature of promising Nigerian winger Prince Amos and this is official.
Norrby IF have pulled off a transfer coup with the capture of Amos as the talented forward was courted by a couple of clubs higher up the football pyramid in the Swedish football league system.
26-time Allsvenskan champions Malmo and another traditional club in Sweden in the form of Djurgårdens IF Fotboll were interested in signing the 18-year-old before he opted to join Norrby IF.
Prince Amos will be spending the rest of the 2024 Swedish season on loan at Norrby IF, with an option to buy him from Nigerian grassroots club Tripple 44 Football Academy at the end of the campaign included in the deal.
Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com on Friday afternoon, Olatunji Okuku - founder of Tripple 44 Football Academy - promptly refuted sensational claims circulating in the local media regarding Amos' potential transfers to Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam.
He emphasized that the reports should be taken with a pinch of salt and categorized the information as 'rumours'.
Okuku further disclosed that Amos' transfer to Norrby IF would be beneficial for his growth, as he is guaranteed playing time at his new club.
It didn't make sense for the teenager to join either Malmo or Djurgårdens IF because he would have been loaned out to a third tier club in Sweden, with BK Olympic touted as a potential loan destination.
Prince Amos trained with Nigeria's Olympic National team in 2022 ahead of a clash with Tanzania but was not included in the final squad for the U23 AFCON qualifier.
