Team news: Deborah Abiodun trains fully with Super Falcons ahead of cracker against Banyana Banyana
Published: April 08, 2024Super Falcons lynchpin Deborah Abiodun has fully returned to training ahead Tuesday's blockbuster Olympic qualifiers return leg against South Africa's Banyana Banyana.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the 20-year-old midfielder participated in the team's recovery session on Saturday and took part in full training on Sunday, therefore completely ruling out fears of a long term injury which was initially projected to make her unavailable for selection for Tuesday's showdown in Pretoria.
The former Rivers Angels starlet produced another one of her regular midfield masterclasses in Nigeria's 1-0 first leg win in Abuja last Friday, making tireless and energetic runs in midfield ensuring stability for the nine-time African Queens in the middle of the park.
Unfortunately for Deborah, she did not complete the ninety-minute mark as she was substituted midway through the second half, due to an injury.
Nonetheless, her defensive showings in midfield were instrumental in ensuring that the Super Falcons head into the return leg away from home with a much needed clean sheet.
The news of her return will surely come as a sigh of relief for fans eager to see the young midfielder in action in Tuesday's return leg as the WAFCON 2022 semi-finalists only need to avoid defeat to book their place at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
The Pittsburgh Panthers midfielder will be Instrumental in Randy Waldrum's collective efforts to qualify the Super Falcons for their first Olympics since the 2008 edition in Beijing.
