Osimhen's replacement: Vidigal urges Napoli to sign Arsenal and Chelsea target Gyokeres
Published: April 11, 2024
Former Sporting CP defensive midfielder Josè Luis Vidigal has urged Napoli to make a move for Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres this summer as a replacement for Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen's departure from Napoli at the end of the season is inevitable, with Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Premier League clubs, notably Chelsea in the race for his signature.
Gyokeres could be on his way out of Sporting CP at the end of the season as Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in signing him.
The 25-year-old could consider leaving the Portuguese giants if Liverpool-linked manager Ruben Amorim departs Sporting CP.
Viktor Gyokeres has been in excellent form this season, contributing 36 goals and 15 assists in 42 games which has caught the attention of the two Premier League clubs based in London.
Josè Luis Vidigal has predicted that Gyokeres would replicate Osimhen's goal-scoring prowess if Napoli were to secure his signature.
The stumbling block to a deal is that the former Coventry City man is valued at around 100 million euros - a significant sum for Napoli to spend on a single player even with the anticipated sale of Osimhen for 130 million euros.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, via Area Napoli, Vidigal said: "He is a very high level striker but he has a clause 100 million and if he doesn't go to Napoli he will go to another big team.
"He's a striker with characteristics that I haven't seen for years. Immediately a starter at Napoli? Osimhen will leave and in Naples they will need a strong striker.
"If Gyokeres comes to Italy he will score many goals like Osimhen did. In every match he will amaze."
Napoli's recruitment team has identified Feyenoord's Santiago Giménez and Lille's Jonathan David as potential successors to Osimhen.
