Published: April 17, 2024
Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has been nominated for the EA Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Boniface has played no small role in helping the Black and Reds scoop their first league title in close to 120 years of existence.
He netted the opening goal in Bayer Leverkusen's 5-0 thumping of Werder Bremen last weekend to confirm their status as the new Bundesliga champions.
With 11 goals to his credit, the Nigeria international is the joint-top scorer for Xabi Alonso's side despite missing 11 games due to injury.
The 23-year-old will slug it out with Spurs legend and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, Serhou Guirassy, Marvin Ducksch, Jonas Wind, Niclas Füllkrug, Omar Marmoush, Ermedin Demirović, Loïs Openda and Deniz Undav for a place in attack of the team.
Former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka who has also been a key member of the indomitable Bayer Leverkusen side has also been nominated and will battle teammates Exequiel Palacios and Florian Wirtz, former Manchester City forward Leroy Sané and eleven others for a place in the midfield.
The final 11-man team which will consist of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers will largely be determined by the votes cast by fans, clubs and experts.
