Wolverhampton Wanderers name two Nigerian teenagers in gameday squad to face Arsenal
Published: April 20, 2024
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O'Neil has named two Nigerian teenagers in his matchday squad for the ongoing Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Molineux Stadium in the West Midlands.
Wesley Okoduwa, son of retired Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, is among the substitutes along with Italian-born player Temple Ojinnaka.
Wesley is a 15-year-old right-back and will become the youngest player to represent Wolves in the Premier League if he is given playing time against the Gunners.
The 19-year-old Ojinnaka is versatile player who is capable of being deployed as a right-back, central defender or defensive midfielder.
This season, he has represented Wolves in the Premier League 2, EFL Trophy, Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup.
Ojinnaka has been described by the official website of Wolves as a 'very powerful defensive midfielder who links and connects play up the pitch and an enthusiastic learner'.
He signed a scholarship deal with Wolves in the summer of 2021 before inking his first professional contract in February 2023.
Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Gary O'Neil is dealing with a lengthy injury list and has named five teenagers on the bench in order to make up the numbers.
If Okoduwa and Ojinnaka step onto the field for their Premier League debuts as substitutes, the right-back will wear jersey number 61, while the defensive midfielder will don number 57.
