Viborg sporting director confirms Gent are interested in Ementa but denies negotiations with Belgian club
Published: April 21, 2024Viborg sporting director Mads Agesen has played down speculation linking promising Danish-Nigerian striker Anosike Ementa with a summer transfer to Belgian club KAA Gent.
However, Agesen has confirmed that Gent are among the clubs interested in signing the 21-year-old who has been likened to Nigeria international Paul Onuachu due to his height and playing style.
It was previously reported that Anosike Ementa was close to a move to Gent and would cost one million euros, roughly eight times the amount Viborg paid Aalborg BK for his signature last July.
Ahead of Sunday's home game against Lyngby, Agesen insisted that Viborg are not in talks with Gent or negotiating with anyone in general.
"There is no truth to the rumor that we are negotiating with anyone right now," says Agesen to Discovery+, via bold.dk.
" In relation to us negotiating, it's vertically incorrect, because we don't do that, but I can say that there is interest, and it's from more than Gent."
Ementa has a contract with Viborg until the end of 2026 and the club would like to keep him for at least one more season.
He has registered thirteen goal involvements (9 goals, 4 assists) from twenty-eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Gent are in the market for new strikers following the sale of 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban and Hugo Cuypers to Lyon and Chicago Fire respectively last winter for a combined fee of 34 million euros with bonuses included.
