Club president dispels rumours linking ex-Chelsea, Spurs boss Conte with coaching job at Osimhen's Napoli
Published: May 16, 2024
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has dispelled rumors linking former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte to the club's coaching position, stating that he is not the only one who can bring success to the team.
De Laurentiis made the comments during the presentation of Napoli's double training camp, where he also discussed the team's rebuilding plans and the restyling of the Maradona stadium.
De Laurentiis emphasized that Napoli is starting from scratch, with a total re-foundation of the team, and that he takes full responsibility for the current season's failures.
He also confirmed that a new sporting director will be appointed soon and that there will be other new figures joining the team.
When asked about Conte, De Laurentiis stated that he had only mentioned the coach's name in November and that the media has been speculating about it since then.
He also pointed out that Napoli has a history of developing talented coaches, such as Maurizio Sarri, who joined the team from Empoli.
"You are the ones talking about Antonio Conte, I never mentioned that". De Laurentiis claimed in quotes revealed on Fabrizio Romano's X account.
"It was a topic in November, that's it. It looks like there's only one man who can bring Napoli to top level but that's not the case".
De Laurentiis also addressed the stadium issue, stating that he has called his architects to restyle the Maradona stadium, which will take two years to complete.
He expressed frustration with the Municipality of Naples, saying that he has had difficult relationships with them despite having an agreement in place.
Overall, De Laurentiis' comments suggest that Napoli is focused on rebuilding and starting anew, with a total re-foundation of the team and a focus on investing in the right players and coaches to bring success to the team.
