Potential Zirkzee replacement: Bologna linked with move for 2023 Super Eagles invitee
Published: May 20, 2024
Bologna are keeping tabs on 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban as a possible replacement for Arsenal linked striker Joshua Zirkzee.
According to Get Football citing Ignazio Genuardi, the Serie A outfit have the diminutive Nigerian forward and Stade Brestois striker Lilian Brassier, on their shortlist as Zirkzee's possible replacement.
Following an impressive campaign, the Netherlands youth international has caught the attention of European heavyweights, including Arsenal, AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus
With the high prospect of leaving Bologna, it is only logical that the club start looking for his replacement and that has led them to Orban.
The Nigerian striker enjoyed a brilliant start in the Jupiler Pro League but things got bad for him this term and that led him to joining Lyon in January.
Since joining the French giants, Orban has managed three goals in 16 games across all competitions for Lyon.
While he is reportedly being targeted by Bologna, Brassier is considered higher on the wishlist than the former Gent striker but the former has a host of other suitors which could make it difficult for the Serie A outfit to win his signature.
Likewise, it could be difficult for them to get Orban who has recently joined Lyon, with whom he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract which expires in the summer of 2028.
