'Already said yes' - Chelsea closing in on deal to appoint Iheanacho and Ndidi's manager as new coach
Published: May 27, 2024
Carney Chukwuemeka, Noni Madueke and Lesely Ugochukwu will soon have a new coach at Chelsea, according to reports.
Transfer market expert Frabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea and Enzo Maresca are set to agree on contract terms.
The Italian football tactician led Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi's Leicester City to win the EFL Championship in the recently concluded season.
The Blues will choose Mauricio Pochettino's replacement within the week, and it has been suggested that Enzo Maresca is the preferred candidate over Roberto De Zerbi, Ipswich Town's Kieran McKenna and Brentford's Thomas Frank.
Maresca has a release clause of around 10 million euros, a figure which obviously does not scare the Blues.
Romano has confirmed that a two-year deal with option for further season or three-year deal is the final detail being clarified, adding that the Italian manager has already said yes to the Chelsea project and it's up to the clubs now to agree on compensation.
Maresca is seen as the right manager to develop the huge talents that Chelsea have acquired over the last two years and take the club back to the Champions League.
The 44-year-old has been linked with the Manchester United job if they decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag but Chelsea's interest is more concrete and advanced.
Ndidi made 36 appearances over the course of the 2023-2024 campaign with Enzo Maresca in the Foxes dugout, while Iheanacho appeared in 26 games.
