Doubts continue to linger over Chukwueze's fitness as winger is left out of AC Milan's Australia trip
Published: May 28, 2024
There are still doubts over the fitness of Samuel Chukwueze ten days before the Super Eagles take on South Africa's Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying match in Uyo, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Although the Serie A season has ended, AC Milan have one match left to finish their campaign, a friendly against AS Roma in Perth, Australia on May 31.
AC Milan coach for the trip to Australia, Daniele Bonera has summoned twenty-three players and Chukwueze was not part of the traveling squad.
The Nigeria international has remained in Italy as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury he suffered during the first half of the Rossoneri's 5-1 win over Cagliari on May 11.
Chukwueze missed the last two games contested by AC Milan, against Torino and Salernitana due to the ailment.
The big question now is whether the winger will be able to help the Super Eagles in their quest to register back-to-back wins against South Africa and Benin.
The previous time Chukwueze had the same injury, in October 2023, he missed three consecutive AC Milan matches.
Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella and Atalanta's Ademola Lookman are the other wingers Finidi has called up for the internationals in June.
