Belgium's Euro 2024 squad: Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers misses out

The Royal Belgian Football Association have announced Belgium's squad for the 2024 European Championship.

The Belgian FA have passed up the opportunity to completely cap-tie Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, following his omission from the list of twenty-five players selected by Domenico Tedesco

Johan Bakayoko (PSV Eindhoven), Charles De Ketelaere (Atalanta), Jeremy Doku (Manchester City), Romelu Lukaku (Roma), Dodi Lukebakio (Sevilla), Lois Openda (RB Leipzig) and Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) are the seven forwards heading to Germany with the Belgian national team.

Despite all the criticism that came his way, statistically speaking, Dessers impressed in his first season at Ibrox, registering thirty goal involvements from 53 all-competition appearances.

Tongeren native Dessers is still eligible to represent Belgium, his country of birth, since the matches he played for the Super Eagles did not commit him to Nigeria, his mother's homeland.

The 29-year-old, who has earned six caps for the Super Eagles, was not cap-tied in competitive matches under former Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro.

The Portuguese football tactician chose to leave him on the bench as a non-playing substitute in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Since March 2015 when he was an unused substitute in an U21 Euro qualifier against Moldova, Dessers has not been called up to any of Belgium's national teams.
