Report: Seven-time French champions set their sights on Everton-linked midfielder Wilfred Ndidi
Published: May 28, 2024
Seven-time French champions Olympique Lyonnais are reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this summer.
According to transfer market website Foot Mercato, Lyon are working hard to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season and have set their sights on Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.
Lyon attempted to sign the Nigeria international last summer but the deal was difficult to pull off because he was not available on loan, in addition to his huge wages.
Ndidi was a key player as Leicester City secured an immediate return to the Premier League, registering nine goal involvements in 32 matches, playing in a more advanced midfield role.
The former Racing Genk ace has roughly one month left on his contract with the Foxes and it is uncertain if he will extend his stay at the King Power Stadium.
As per the report, Lyon face competition from Premier League side Everton and La Liga club Real Betis for the services of the 27-year-old, who has played nonstop at Leicester City since January 2017.
Lyon are in the market for a central midfielder with Corentin Tolisso, Paul Akouokou and Johann Lepenant linked with possible departures from the Red and Blues.
Spanish clubs Barcelona and Sevilla have also been credited with an interest in Ndidi.
Lyon brought in 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban from KAA Gent in the January transfer window and he went on to play in sixteen games and scored three goals.
