England hopeful of beating Nigeria, Algeria, France to Crystal Palace's quad-national winger
Published: May 31, 2024
According to HITC, England are hopeful of convincing Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise to switch international allegiance.
The 22-year-old was born in England to a Nigerian father and an Algerian-French mother and as a result is eligible to play for four national teams namely England, France, Algeria and Nigeria.
Olise was invited to the Super Eagles squad in 2021 ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualification game against Benin and Lesotho but didn't honor the invitation.
He currently represents France U21s and starred for them in the European Championship last summer where he picked up an injury that ruled him out of action till November.
The talented forward reportedly is also in France's plan for the 2024 Paris Olympics but that hasn't derailed England from being hopeful of getting the Crystal Palace forward to represent the Three Lions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Gareth Southgate's side is currently flooded with a host of talented attackers including Tottenham icon Harry Kane, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer and Premier League Player of the Season Cole Palmer.
With the stiff competition in the Three Lions' squad it remains to be seen whether Olise will be convinced of making a switch to his country of birth.
