'They are on their way' - Finidi assures Iwobi, Lookman, Okoye will report for duty before Bafana Bafana clash
Published: June 05, 2024
Nigeria coach Finidi George has assured that Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Maduka Okoye will report for international duty before Friday's showdown against Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Five players Paul Onuachu, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka and Semi Ajayi arrived in Uyo on Tuesday due to the NLC strike that halted domestic flights in the country.
Finidi confirmed that Iwobi and Lookman are on their way to camp and is also confident that Okoye will show up before the matchday three fixture.
The Ajax Amsterdam legend worked with twenty players in Tuesday evening's training session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
"We have almost all the players in camp, just three players that are not here at the moment, but quite happy we have twenty players in camp so we can do a lot with them while waiting for others," Finidi George told TVC News on Tuesday evening.
"Definitely they will make it before the game. I'm quite sure, they are on their way."
Nigeria, who are aiming to qualify for their seventh World Cup, are without key players Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, Zaidu Sanusi and Moses Simon for the games against South Africa and Benin.
The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after drawing their opening two games.
