Early team news Super Eagles: Fisayo Dele-Bashiru given the green light to face Benin after injury scare
Published: June 10, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Nigeria have received a major boost ahead of Monday evening's crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Benin with Manchester City academy product Fisayo Dele-Bashiru receiving the medical green light to face the Cheetahs.
The Hatayspor midfielder had been rated as doubtful for today's clash after he was stretchered off the pitch around the hour mark during Nigeria's 1-1 draw with South Africa last Friday.
Dele-Bashiru was brutally tackled by Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala, the same player that brought down Victor Osimhen in the box in the semifinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old has shaken off the knock and trained without limitations during the Super Eagles final workout at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on Sunday.
Dele-Bashiru has increased Finidii's options having trained fully with the team and will be included in the matchday squad against Benin as long as there are no last-minute setbacks.
Against Bafana Bafana, he capped off a great performance by scoring a stunning equalizer after he was fed by Alex Iwobi thirty-seven seconds into the second half.
As for West Brom central defender Semi Ajayi, who was replaced in the 80th minute against South Africa due to a knock, it remains uncertain whether he will be cleared to return to action.
The former Arsenal U21 captain took part in all the drills during the first fifteen minutes of Sunday's training session that were open to the media.
