Osimhen or Kvaratskhelia? Ex-Napoli star names the forward Conte might sacrifice this summer
Published: June 11, 2024
Ex-Napoli striker Massimo Rastelli has reckoned that Antonio Conte would prefer to lose Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen over Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The former Chelsea boss is the new manager of Napoli and faced with the likelihood of losing both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia during the summer.
The Nigerian striker has been linked with Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal but the two clubs seem to have withdrawn their interest while he is also being courted by PSG and Al-Ahli.
The Georgian forward has also been linked with an exit from Naples with PSG also eyeing him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappé who has joined Real Madrid as a free agent.
Speaking to Forza Napoli via mondonapoli,Rastelli believes Kvaratskhelia is more suited to playing under Conte than Osimhen and thus believes the Italian tactician will prefer to see the Georgia International stay at the club.
"Who would I sacrifice between Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen? For Conte's game, who likes a striker who can act as a link in attack, perhaps the Georgian would be more suitable.
"In this sense I think that between the two Conte considers the Nigerian more expendable."
Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia have been Napoli's best players in the past two seasons and orchestrated their league triumph in the 2022/2023 season, recording 56 goal involvements between them.
They struggled to replicate that form last season and is one of the reasons the Parthenopeans lost the title to Inter Milan, registering just 37 goal contributions.
While there is the possibility of Napoli losing either or both of them, it won't also be surprising to see the two forwards feature under Conte next season given the situation of things in the transfer market.
