Mourinho eyes move for Super Eagles star Ndidi as alternative to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder
Published: June 12, 2024Turkish giants Fenerbahçe have been linked with a move for Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
As reported by Sabah, the Jose Mourinho led side are eyeing a move for the Nigeria international as an alternative to Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
Højbjerg started just eight Premier League games last season and could seal a move away from north London this summer with Fenerbahçe ready to capitalize on the situation.
However, the Turkish outfit face competition from Atletico Madrid and Juventus and as a result are looking for an alternative to the Denmark international.
This explains the link to Ndidi whose contract with Leicester City ends at the end of this month though the Premier League newcomers are still trying to convince him to pen a new deal.
The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Galatasaray last summer but after an impressive season with Leicester City, he could be on his way to Turkey if Fenerbahçe can beat other competitors to his signature.
Ndidi is reportedly being coveted by Spanish giants Barcelona as well as Everton with all interested clubs seemingly hoping he doesn't extend his deal with the Foxes.
While he enjoyed a successful campaign with Leicester City, the same thing cannot be said about his performances for the Super Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
Just like majority of his colleagues, he didn't cover himself in glory as the three-time African champions now stand the risk of missing the World Cup.
