Manchester United consider approach to sign N64b-rated Dutch-Nigerian striker
Published: June 18, 2024
According to transfer market specialist David Ornstein, Manchester United are exploring a deal to sign Super Eagles-eligible striker Joshua Zirkzee who has a release clause of 40 million euros (approximately N64b in Nigerian currency).
Writing in his report for The Athletic UK, Ornstein revealed that the Red Devils are speaking to the representatives of the Dutch-Nigerian player and their interest is advanced.
He also included in his report that Manchester United are considering an approach to Bologna over the possibility of signing the Dutch-Nigerian attacker, an indication that the deal is still in its early stages.
The Red Devils scored the joint fewest number of goals among teams that finished in the top half of the Premier League table last season and it is necessary that they fortify their attacking department.
They signed Rasmus Højlund last summer but the Danish striker struggled to hit the ground running, particularly in the Premier League, where he didn't net his first goal till December and finished the season with just 10 goals.
It now appears that the Red Devils want to sign a new striker that will rival the Denmark international with Zirkzee being one of their targets.
The 23-year-old is one of the in-demand strikers in European football, having helped Bologna secure a UEFA Champions League spot in the Italian Serie A last term.
He is on the radar of Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan with the latter ready to pay his €40m release clause but the commission being demanded by his agent Kia Joorabchian has been the stumbling block.
Joorabchian is reportedly demanding €15m from the Rossoneri and Manchester United may also have to cough out as much as that if they are to sign the forward.
