Liverpool join Chelsea, Manchester United in race for ex-Super Eagles invitee
Published: June 19, 2024
Liverpool have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for former Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise.
According to Footballtransfers, the Reds have identified the Crystal Palace forward as a potential replacement for three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah.
Salah is entering into the final months of his contract at Anfield and while the Reds are not open to selling him this summer despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, they are already lining up a succession plan for the Egyptian forward.
They have been linked with PSV forward Johan Bakayoko who is currently representing Belgium in the 2024 European Championship and have now added Olise to their list of targets for this transfer window.
The hurdle facing the six-time European champions in their pursuit of the much-coveted forward is the amount of games that they can afford time with Salah still being at the club.
The Egypt international is arguably Premier League's best right winger and it is difficult to see how Olise comes in to displace him from the starting lineup even with the arrival of Arne Slot.
This could an give advantage to Chelsea and Manchester United who would be ready to give him more game time as compared to Liverpool.
Ultimately, the next destination of the 22-year-old will depend on whoever is ready to pay his £60m release clause and the player's choice.
