Chelsea exploring ways to sign Spanish-Nigerian attacker after initial bid was rejected
Published: June 19, 2024
Premier League giants Chelsea FC are undeterred in their quest to sign Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion, despite having their initial bid rejected by Atletico Madrid.
According to transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blues tabled a €30 million offer plus add-ons, which was turned down by Atletico Madrid.
Romano's latest update indicates that Chelsea are now working on negotiating with the Spanish outfit to secure the services of the highly-rated young striker.
The 20-year-old has been making waves in La Liga, scoring nine goals in 35 appearances combined for Granada and Alaves last season.
His impressive form has caught the attention of Chelsea, who are keen to bolster their attacking options.
With a release clause of £67m (€80m), Chelsea are hoping to negotiate a deal that meets Atletico Madrid's demands.
The Blues' interest in Omorodion is part of their broader strategy to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Following the appointment of Enzo Maresca as manager, Chelsea are eager to bring in a new striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, who struggled to make an impact last season.
The Spain U21 international presents an attractive option for Chelsea, with his pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability making him an ideal candidate to lead the line.
Although he has yet to make an appearance for Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone has praised his performances, describing him as "humble and hardworking".
The west London outfit's pursuit of Omorodion is a clear indication of their ambition to return to the top four and compete in the Europa Conference League next season.
With negotiations ongoing, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can convince Atletico Madrid to part with their prized asset.
