Official: Nigerian winger ends eight-year association with Real Madrid, joins Las Palmas permanently
Published: June 20, 2024
With a statement on their official website, European champions Real Madrid have announced that Spanish-born Nigerian winger Marvin Akinlabi Park has ended his eight-year association with the club following his permanent transfer to UD Las Palmas.
Park, who is also eligible for South Korea through his mother, joined Los Blancos in 2016 at the age of sixteen, rising through the youth team ranks to make his first team debut against Real Sociedad on September 20, 2020.
In doing so, he entered into the history books as the first Nigeria-eligible footballer to play competitively for Real Madrid’s first team.
The Palma de Mallorca native is departing Real Madrid after making four first team appearances.
Over the past two seasons, he has been loaned out to UD Las Palmas, playing in 56 games, including 31 in La Liga, and was on the scoresheet once.
In 2020, he was a key member of the Real Madrid U19 squad that won the UEFA Youth League, scoring or assisting in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final.
Las Palmas have triggered the purchase clause that was in the agreement that took him to Los Amarillos last August.
The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract that will keep him at Las Palmas until June 30, 2028.
Apart from the aforementioned clubs, Park counts Sporting Ciutat de Palma, Tranmere Rovers, SD La Salle and Es Jonquet Penya Arrabal as his former employers.
