Report: Manchester United confident of signing Super Eagles-eligible attacker
Published: June 20, 2024
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are confident of signing Super Eagles-eligible striker Joshua Zirkzee who has also been linked with Arsenal.
As contained in the report, the Premier League giants are currently in talks with the camp of the Bologna forward and are considering whether to trigger his £33.8million release clause.
The Old Trafford outfit want to bolster their attacking options after they struggled for goals in the Premier League last season and coupled with the departure of Frenchman Anthony Martial.
Zirkzee is one the players on their target list and if they fail to reach an agreement to get his signature, they will shift focus to other targets, one of which is Lille's Jonathan David as reported elsewhere.
The 23-year-old's valuation may not be difficult for the Red Devils but the stumbling block could be his agent Kia Joorabchian's commission, which has been the reason he hasn't joined AC Milan.
The Rossoneri are also one of the admirers of the Dutch-Nigerian striker but have been unable to grasp his signature due to Joorabchian's insistence of getting his €15m commission.
Zirkzee is currently with the Netherlands squad at the 2024 European championship and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to get a move before the end of the competition.
