What former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh said after Belgium's first win at Euro 2024
Published: June 22, 2024
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has hailed Belgium following their 2-0 victory over Romania on matchday two of the 2024 European Championship played on Saturday night.
The Red Devils opened the lead as early as the 2nd minute when Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku rolled the ball towards the feet of Youri Tielemans who fired a venomous shot past the goalkeeper.
Lukaku thought he had doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when he put the ball into the back of the net from Kevin De Bruyne through ball but the goal was ruled out by the VAR for offside.
De Bruyne eventually gave Belgium a two-goal cushion in the 79th minute, making the most out of goalkeeper Koen Casteels' goal kick, holding off the challenge of Radu Matei Drăgușin before putting the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper.
The win put Belgium European campaign back on track after they had surprisingly lost to Slovakia on matchday which was played last Monday.
Reacting to their victory on X, Oliseh wrote: "Yes. Belgium is back"
The victory also put them in control of Group E as they sit in first position at the moment and a victory over Ukraine next Wednesday will seal their spot in the knockout round.
