Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing N64b-rated Nigerian right-back
Published: June 23, 2024Italian-born Nigerian defender Michael Kayode has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham who need to bolster their defensive line in the current transfer window.
According to Corriere Fiorentino via Tuttomercatoweb, the north-London side are interested in signing the Fiorentina right-back as a potential replacement for Emerson Royal,
Royal is likely to leave Spurs this summer and has been linked with AC Milan, the Saudi Pro League and Brazilian side Flamengo and the club will have to look for a replacement for him.
Kayode has been valued at €40m (approximately N64b in Nigerian currency) which is unsurprising as his contract with Fiorentina comes to an end in 2028.
The promising defender was one of the brightest prospects in the Italian Serie A last season, making 26 appearances across the campaign and recording three-goal involvements.
In the 2022/2023 season, he couldn't make his debut despite being named in the matchday squad on 11 occasions in the Italian top-flight.
The 19-year-old made his debut against Genoa last August and went on to feature 37 times across all competitions for Fiorentina in his first full season with the first team.
Kayode has previously been linked with Arsenal but there is nothing concrete at the moment and it remains to be seen how strong Tottenham's interest is, particularly with his valuation.
