Official: St Mirren loan in Shrewsbury Town's Irish-Nigerian attacking midfielder Idowu
Published: June 24, 2024
With a statement on their official website, Scottish Premiership club St Mirren have announced the signing of Irish-Nigerian attacking midfielder Roland Idowu.
League One team Shrewsbury Town have loaned out the former Republic of Ireland U17 international to The Saints for the entirety of the 2024-2025 season.
Born in Dublin, Roland started his career in Ireland with St Joseph's before moving to England, where he had stints with Southampton and Cardiff City, before returning to his country of birth to play for Bohemians and Waterford FC.
He made ten appearances in all competitions for Shrewsbury Town last term, coming off the bench in all the matches while logging 177 minutes in total.
Shrewsbury Town have now decided to loan out the dual-national player to gain first team experience in Scotland.
Idowu is the fifth player signed by St Mirren in the summer transfer window, after James Scott, Shaun Rooney, Ellery Balcombe and Oisin Smyth.
Commenting on his temporary move to St Mirren, Idowu told the club's official website: "I've heard a lot about the club and spoke to the manager and Diarmuid O'Carroll. I'm really happy and excited for what the club is pushing for this season.
"I know Richard Taylor. We played together before and he told me it was a good club. I've seen what the club achieved last season and how they are pushing to go further. I just want to come in and help out. "
Idowu offers versatility as he can play as a box-to-box midfielder, central midfielder, defensive midfielder and in behind the strikers.
