Done deal: FC Midtjylland announce signing of young Nigerian striker from partner club FC Ebedei
Published: July 06, 2024With a statement on their official website, Danish Superliga outfit FC Midtjylland have announced the signing of young Nigerian striker Musiliu Olayinka Odekunle from partner club FC Ebedei.
The Wolves have informed that the 18-year-old will initially start his career at FC Midtjylland with the club's U19 team.
Odekunle will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Paul Onuachu and Sylvester Igbonu who are alums of both FC Midtjylland and FC Ebedei and went on to play for the Super Eagles.
Other FC FC Midtjylland academy graduates who have played for Nigeria's senior national team include Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Izunna Uzochukwu and Femi Ajilore.
Jonas Dal, who is responsible for the cooperation with FC Ebedei, describes Odekunle as a typical number 9 good at keeping the ball and can be used as a play-off point in the offensive game.
Odekunle has a strong physical presence which makes him difficult for defenders to deal with and positioning on the pitch is also one of his strengths and an element of his game.
Commenting on his move to FC Midtjylland, Odekunle said: "During my time in Nigeria, I have played with players who have made the trip to FC Midtjylland, and I am looking forward to following in their footsteps.
"At the academy, I am good friends with James (Inyere Arinze, ed.), who has helped me after I came to Denmark. He is good at helping, for example in training, but also outside the pitch."
Odekunle and the rest of the U19 team begin their preparations for the new season in the coming days.
