Confirmed: Rotherham United loan in Nigerian attacker from German 2. Bundesliga club FC Nurnberg
Published: July 10, 2024Rotherham United have announced the signing of , born in Lambeth-born Nigerian attacker Joseph Hungbo on a season-long loan from FC Nürnberg, according to an official statement on the club's official website.
Joseph Hungbo began his football journey with Hillyfielders FC before moving to Crystal Palace in 2009.
Starting at the U9 level, he spent a decade with the Eagles, eventually captaining the U18 team and signing a two-year scholarship in 2016.
Hungbo departed Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019 to join Watford, where he became a regular for the U23 squad and made his first-team debut in the Emirates FA Cup against Tranmere Rovers.
His development continued with a loan move to Aldershot Town and Scottish Premiership side Ross County for the 2021/22 season, where he excelled by scoring seven goals in 33 appearances.
Hungbo's impressive performance earned him the Young Player and Players' Young Player of the Year awards, along with the club and league Goal of the Season trophies for a stunning free-kick against Dundee.
He is Rotherham United's 11th signing of the summer transfer window under manager Steve Evans.
The club noted that the deal is subject to ratification from the FA, EFL, and international clearance.
Hungbo has already joined the Millers at their training camp at St Andrew's University in Scotland, as he prepares to contribute to their upcoming campaign.
