Chelsea boss running the rule over exciting 18yo Nigerian winger in pre-season
Published: July 10, 2024
Chelsea's new manager Enzo Maresca has promoted London-born Nigerian winger Tyrique George to first team training, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A number of Chelsea first teamers have not yet returned to training because of their participation in this summer's European Championship or Copa America.
The Italian football tactician is running the rule over George in pre-season with a view to his possible inclusion in Chelsea's traveling squad to the United States, where the Blues will take on Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid as part of their preparations for the forthcoming campaign.
The exciting forward rubbed shoulders with Super Eagles-eligible duo Tosin Adarabioyo and Noni Madueke during today's workout at Cobham Traning Center.
The England youth international has been called up to the first team's training sessions before, having joined them in multiple workouts at the back end of last season.
George was a non-playing substitute in Premier League matches against Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in the season run-in.
A first team debut is inevitable if he is not loaned out by the close of the summer transfer window.
By offering George a new three-year contract with a potential fourth-year extension during the off-season, Chelsea have shown their strong faith in his abilities.
