Announcement imminent: Gong follows in the footsteps of Kelechi Iheanacho by joining Widzew Lodz
Published: July 11, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that Polish Ekstraklasa side Widzew Łódź are on the verge of announcing the signing of Nigerian winger Hilary Gong from Slovak outfit AS Trencin.
Gong passed his medical with Widzew Łódź on Wednesday, paving the way for him to sign a two-year contract with option for an additional season.
After his signing ceremony with Widzew Łódź, he will have his first training session with his new teammates on Thursday, July 11.
Last summer, Gong made a strategic decision to rejoin AS Trencin, where he demonstrated a remarkable resurgence in his athletic performance, particularly his exceptional speed, which was a key factor in his previous 2.5 million euros transfer to Vitesse Arnhem.
He posted 18 goals and sixteen assists in 78 appearances combined across two spells at AS Trencin.
Before his return to AS Trencin, he had stops at Vitesse Arnhem (Netherlands), Haugesund (Norway) and Ararat-Armenia (Armenia).
By joining Widzew Łódź, Gong has followed in the footsteps of retired Nigerian attacker Kelechi Iheanacho who wore the colours of the Red Army during his playing days.
Frank Egharevba, Emmanuel Ekwueme, Princewill Okachi, and Ugochukwu Ukah are among the Nigerian players who have formerly represented Widzew Łódź.
Widzew Łódź begin the new season with an away game against Stal Mielec at Stadion Miejski w Mielcu on July 22, 2024.
